The deadline for entering this year’s World Demolition Awards (WDAs) is fast approaching, with just weeks left until the 28 June deadline.

Part of the World Demolition Summit (WDS), the WDAs recognise excellence and best practice, as determined by an international judging panel of leading industry experts.

In a recent interview, WDS Programme Organiser, Leila Steed, said: “It’s massively important that the work of contractors is recognised and publicised on a global level.

“While the sector is facing a number of challenges at the moment, the drive towards Net Zero and circular economy, coupled with large scale infrastructure renewal around the world, means that the coming years will put the spotlight on our industry in a way that has never happened before.

“It’s a massive opportunity and entering the World Demolition Awards - which are recognised around the world - is a great way for contractors to demonstrate their level of expertise and professionalism - not just to their peers and the wider construction sector, but also, through publication in Demolition & Recycling International magazine, to the public.”

Contractors and manufacturers, from anywhere in the world, can now download the 2024 entry forms from the new World Demolition Summit website.

There are 11 award categories in total, with two specifically for demolition equipment manufacturers and the remaining nine for demolition, dismantling and decommissioning contractors.

Entries for the 2024 awards should cover demolition and related work that either started or was completed during the period 1 July 2023 through to 30 June 2024.

“We utilise a hard deadline for the awards, which this year is 28 June, for a number of reasons,” Leila said. “First, when dealing with entries coming in from so many different countries, you have to be firm and specific. Second, if we were to ever push it back, it would severely and negatively impact the judging process.

“Our judging panel is made up of industry experts from around the world - who are themselves the directors and leaders of demolition companies.

“Our judges take an enormous amount of time out of their schedules to assess and examine the award entries with greatest attention to detail, and as the organiser of the event, it’s imperative that we make the process as smooth as possible.”
