The company, part of Heidelberg Materials, supplies heavy building materials to the construction industry via its existing aggregates, concrete, asphalt and contracting, cement and recycling business lines, which together operate 280 manufacturing sites and employ more than 3,500 people.

Its new recycling business will work to recover construction and demolition waste, and will process and reuse it “deliver sustainable products to its customers”.

Simon Willis, CEO at Handson UK, said: “Promoting circularity by recycling, reusing and reducing the use of primary raw materials is crucial to reaching net zero.

“The development of a separate recycling business line will allow us to provide the most sustainable products to our customers through circularity and innovation to enable building more, with less.

“It is another significant step towards achieving our aim of being the industry leader in the supply of sustainable, circular products.”

Hanson’s recycling business will be led by James Whitelaw, who moves from his role as aggregates managing director to take up the position.
