The 260 m-long main span of Brisbane's new Gateway Bridge reached a milestone this month with the installation of two truck-mounted concrete pumps at the top of the two main river piers.

The pumps will supply concrete for casting of the main span segments.

The pumps were lifted into place by two 24 tonne capacity Terex CTT 561 flat top tower cranes.

Construction of a second Gateway Bridge and refurbishment of the existing Gateway Bridge, part of the AU$ 1.88 billion (US$ 1.45 billion) Gateway Upgrade Project, Brisbane, Australia is now just over two years into construction.

The second Gateway Bridge will open to southbound traffic in mid-2010, followed by refurbishment of the existing Bridge under partial lane closures.

Both bridges will be fully opened to traffic by early 2011, with six lanes for southbound traffic and six lanes for northbound traffic.

The project is being delivered by Queensland Motorways with design and construction by the Leighton Abigroup Joint Venture.
