Premium Content

03 April 2012

A fire broke out on the night of Monday April 2 at the Federation Tower, part of the new Moscow City business district in Moscow, Russia. The skyscraper is currently under construction and was due for completion next year. At 506 m high, the 93 storey Eastern Tower is due to be the tallest building in Europe.

Local news reports say it took four hours to bring the fire under control and that helicopters were used dump water to help douse the flames. No injuries were reported.

It is not clear whether the fire affected one or both of the towers in the Federation Tower complex. The site comprises an East and West Tower, which share a podium structure. The cause of the fire, which broke out at about the 60-storey level has not been identified.

Several videos of the blaze have been posted on YouTube.
