Spain-based telecommunications and systems engineering company Powernet specialises in designing, installing, maintaining and operating data centres.

Ferrovial has installed José Gabriel Lao as the new managing director of Powernet. He joined Ferrovial as a site manager in 1997, before moving to the company’s water management division, Cadagua, in 2008.

Ferrovial has a decade of data centre experience, mainly in Spain, where it has developed projects for major international companies.

Last year, it created its digital infrastructure division in the growing sector, moving from building simply data centres to developing a role as an investor and developer.

The news came shortly before Ferrovial announced a 6.2% like-for-like increase in revenue to €6.9 billion for the first nine months of 2025, as compared to the same period a year before. Its adjusted EBITDA rose 4.8% year on year in like-for-like terms to €1 billion.

Ferrovial said revenue increased in all divisions, while its US highways assets mainly drove the improvement in adjusted EBITDA.

Meanwhile its construction division’s order book reached €17.2 billion and delivered a 3.7% EBIT margin. North America accounted for 47% of orders, Poland for 22%, and Spain for 15%.
