FCC wins € 1,99 billion Slovakian concession

A consortium led by FCC has won the € 1,99 billion concession contract to build and operate a 25 km section of the D1 motorway in Slovakia. The other members of the consortium are FCC's Austrian subsidiary, Alpine, Hochtief PPP Solutions and Western Carpathians Motorway Investors Company.

The 25 km section of road will pass through the northern cities of Hricovské Podhradie and Dubná Skala and near to the city of Zilina, through mountainous terrain. It is exepcted to include 7,6 km of bridges and thre tunnels totalling 10,6 km. The longest of these will be the 7,5 km Visnove Tunnel, comprising two tubes with a cross section of 120 m2 each.

The contract is being gtranted for a 30 year concession period covering financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the road. FCC said fainancing is expected to be in place in the next few months.

The scheme is the third to be tendered under the Slovakian governemtn's Road Concession Programme. The first two were the R1 and a section of the first stage of the D1. The D1 is part of the Trans European Transport netowrk (TEN-T).
