FCC and Odebrecht land second Panama metro contract

A joint venture between FCC of Spain and Brazil’s Odebrecht has won the € 1.65 billion (US$ 1.86 billion) contract for construction of Line 2 of the Panama City Metro. According to the Metro of Panama Secretary, the consortium entered the best bid, scoring 856 out of a possible 1,000 on the Ministry’s assessment criteria.
The contract is for of engineering design services, construction of the civil works, installation of auxiliary works on the line, supply and installation of the railway line including rolling stock. It includes 16 stations and 21 km of elevated track, connecting stations from the San Miguelito district to the 24 de diciembre district.
FCC and Odebrecht previously constructed Line 1 of the Panama City, working in a consortium with Alstom. The US$ 1.45 billion contract was awarded in 2010 and completed in 2013. This made it the first metro line in Central America
FCC is also currently working on lines 4, 5 and 6 of the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia metro, the red line of the Doha, Qatar metro, Line 2 of Lima, Peru metro and also Toronto, Canada and Bucharest, Romania metros, among others.
