EU approves airport sale
27 November 2009
The European Commission has approved the sale of London's Gatwick Airport, UK, to Global Infrastructure Partners.
BAA Airports, owned by Spain's Ferrovial, was forced to sell Gatwick following an investigation by UK competition authorities. A UK£ 1,5 billion (€ 1,6 billion) deal between Ferrovial and Global Infrastructure Partners was sealed in October pending EU approval.
A statement from the European Commission on 26 November said, "Examination of the proposed transaction showed that the horizontal overlaps between the activities of London City airport and Gatwick airport were limited. Therefore, the transaction raises no competition concerns."
