Eiffage wins work on hospital biology institute with sustainability focus
13 February 2025
Eiffage Construction has secured a €50.8 million (US$53 million) design-build contract for the Institute of Biology and Pathology at Bordeaux University Hospital in Pessac, France.

The project, led by Eiffage in consortium with Celnikier & Grabli Architectes, TLR Architecture, MC Paysages, 2B Concept Consulting, Ingerop, SICC, AVLS, Cenergia, and Hervé Thermique, will cover a floor area of 16,460m² across five storeys.
Eiffage’s share of the contract is valued at €29 million ($30.2 million), the company said.
The new facility will integrate laboratories, offices, and storage spaces around a central patio. Positioned at the Haut-Lévêque site, it will connect the hospital’s logistics hub to the north with its cardiology and care buildings to the south.
The project, designed using BIM (Building Information Modelling), prioritises environmental and energy efficiency, Eiffage said.
“Connected to the hospital centre’s heat and cold networks, the building will be equipped with an intelligent consumption management system. To limit the project’s carbon impact, low-carbon concrete will be used for internal floors and ceilings,” Eiffage said. “The use of bio-sourced or reused materials will also be prioritised.
“In addition, planted spaces will reduce the project’s ecological impact and help prevent heat islands, as well as creating a pleasant living space.”
Design work is currently in progress, with construction scheduled to commence this September.
Eiffage said the project is expected to run 29 months, with completion set for 2028.
