Doosan’s fully automated construction site

25 February 2020

South Korea-based Doosan Infracore has been working on delivering a fully autonomous construction site under the project name: Concept-X.

In this video, Doosan illustrates how multiple construction technologies can work together to create a fully autonomous site; from aerial drone mapping, to create a 3D representation from the ground data, to machines without operators.

These unmanned machines have learned through an Articial Intelligence (AI) algorithm, which has gained data from real operators, to produce the most efficient grade and excavating movements.

Cameras onboard the excavators provide real-time updates to the 3D twin of the site, showing the positioning of site material at all times.

The Doosan programme also offers the potential for AI to diagnose machine health and improve uptime.

Doosan said that some aspects of the technology are still far away, but the advancements shown in this video offer a huge insight to what a construction site could look like in the future.
