Designs under development for new Istanbul airport

Grimshaw has begun work on the design for the Istanbul New Airport in Turkey The architectural team also includes Nordic Office of Architecture, Haptic Architects and local Turkish Partners GMW Mimarlik and Tekeli Sisa.
Situated on the Black Sea coast, 35 km from the city centre, the six-runway development is expected to be delivered in four phases. The first phase aims to serve 90 million passengers per year; this will increase to over 150 million passengers per annum once fully complete. Terminal 1 is expected to be the world’s largest airport terminal under one roof, with a gross floor area close to 1 million m2.
