Dangote wins US$ 228 million cement contracts

16 October 2009

Dangote Cement, Nigeria's largest cement producer, has won contracts worth US$ 228 million with China's Sinoma International Group to build cement plants in Senegal and Zambia.

The contracts will see construction of a 3000-tonne per day cement plant in each country.

In a statement the company said the contracts are the recommencement of its expansion plans outside its domestic market following the recent global economic slowdown.

"We have concluded this deal with Sinoma in order to drive forward our pan-Africa expansion strategy at a time when the global economy seems to be emerging from recession," said Aliko Dangote, president and CEO of the Dangote Group.

Dangote Cement currently has facilities in Nigeria, Benin, Ghana, Senegal, Zambia and South Africa, with a combined capacity of 13 million tonnes.
