Concourse 3 called-off

17 April 2009

A joint venture of Al Habtoor Leighton, Murray & Roberts, and Takenaka (HMRT) has withdrawn from the Concourse 3 project at Dubai Airport, UAE. The group was awarded the AED 4.9 billion (US$ 1.3 billion) contract in December, but says it has been unable to negotiate an acceptable contract with the Dubai Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).

A statement from HMRT said that while the outcome was disappointing, it was in the interests of both parties that the consortium withdrew from the project. With little work carried out on the project, both Al Habtoor Leighton and Murray & Roberts said its cancellation would have no material impact on their financial results.

HMRT, in which Al Habtoor Leighton and Murray & Roberts each have a 40% share, with Takenaka taking 20%, had previously worked for DCA with the construction of Dubai Airport's Terminal 2, which opened last year.
