CIMIC to build China-Hong Kong border crossing

CIMIC Group subsidiary Leighton Asia has won the contract from the Government of the Hong Kong to build a boundary control point on the border between Hong Kong and China for AU$ 1.2 billion (US$ 890 million).

The Liantang/Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point buildings will include the terminus station for the high-speed rail link into China from Hong Kong, being built as part of the Hong Kong‐Zhuhai‐Macao bridge. The project comprises construction of a passenger terminal building and nine other main ancillary buildings including fire and police bases, vehicle examination buildings and a number of bridge structures. Work is scheduled to begin later this year with completeion in 2018.

CIMIC Group executive chairman and CEO Marcelino Fernández Verdes said, “The Boundary Control Point project is a key element in the government’s plans to forge closer economic integration with Mainland China and, once operational, it will generate significant benefits for Hong Kong.

“We look forward to delivering a project of such strategic importance to the Hong Kong

government.”
