The Iraqi government’s Media Office said that the Council, chaired by Iraqi prime minister, Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, this week discussed plans for China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to build the Integrated Medical City in Dhi Qar Governorate in the south of the country.

In a statement the office said that the council had approved a recommendation for a referral made by the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund Committee and was recommended by the Reconstruciton Fund committee.

The Medical City Project, based on a turnkey delivery system, was awarded to CSCEC in accordance with the provisions of the Dhi Qar Reconstruction Fund Instructions (No. 2 of 2021).

Last year Iraqi government officials outlined plans to build a series of medical cities in Dhi Qar, Baghdad and other areas of the country as part of post-war plans to improve the country’s battered health services.

Officials said the plans were likely to be executed in partnership with the private sector in order to ease the spending burden on public coffers.
