Producer Cemex provided 140,000m3 of concrete to help construct a tram line in Zaragoza, Spain.

Line 1 of the tram is 12.8km long and crosses the city from its southernmost end to the north, passing through the city centre.

The project required a variety of specialty concretes in order to provide the necessary strength and resistance while conserving aesthetic qualities. Varieties of concrete used included high-resistance concrete, lighter structural concrete, and architectural pigmented concrete. Cemex also provided concrete for building a bicycle path that runs parallel to the new tram line.

Plans are being developed to open a second tram line in the city by 2015.
