Cat launches compact tracked loaders

Caterpillar launched three additions to its ‘C' designated range of compact tracked loaders (CTL) at the World of Concrete show in Las Vegas. The 279C, 289C and 299C all feature Caterpillar's new steel embedded rubber tracks and fully suspended undercarriage featuring four independent torsion axles.

The new models have rated operating capacities of 1451, 1746 and 1882 kg respectively and power ratings of 61 kW for the 279C and 289C and 67 kW for the 299C.

The three new models feature a long track footprint for improved floatation and traction, while the fully suspended suspension enhances ride quality and traction.

"We have offered multi terrain loaders since 2001," said Todd Lynnes, marketing manager for Caterpillar compact tracked loaders. "These featured the ASV rubber-on-rubber tracks, but the new durable, steel embedded tracks on these new ‘C' designated CTLs' offer minimum wear in aggressive applications."

All three models feature two-speed hydrostatic drive, with a maximum speed of 8.5 mph. "In addition to getting around the site quickly, these new CTLs have the option of a Roll over protection (ROPS), sealed and pressurised cab," continued Mr Lynnes. "A suspended or air ride seat and air filtered ventilation air conditioning enhance the operator environment, while a foot throttle allows the operator to adjust engine speed to suit the application."

The 279C, 289C and 299C also feature a ‘on demand' hydraulic fan for peak performance and the option of a high flow XPS auxiliary-hydraulic system, delivering 125 litres/minute at a pressure of 28000 kPa.

A mechanical quick-coupler is standard equipment, while a hydraulically controlled coupler is available. For added control, the optional ‘advanced machine information and control system' (AMICS) allows the operator to select the sensitivity of the loader arm and bucket, while also providing ten work-speed selections.
