Capital Energy plans €2bn wind farm off Spanish coast
29 November 2022
Spain-based energy company Capital Energy has proposed to build a floating offshore wind farm, named Breogán, off the coasts of A Coruña and Lugo, Spain.
The wind farm is said to be made up of 34 wind turbines, each with a power of 15 megawatts (MW) or more - totaling up to 510 megawatts (MW). The company is anticipated to invest around €2 billion.
The construction and assembly of the wind turbines, as well as the towers on the platforms of the future wind farm, will be carried out in the outer port of A Coruña. The project will consist of the installation of 34 wind turbines on 34 semi-submersible (floating) structures, an offshore substation, a cable anchored on the seabed, and a high-voltage land cable.
The “base port for the construction, the collection of components and assembly of the wind turbines and towers on the platforms” will be, if their plans prosper, the port of Langosteira in A Coruña.
