Bouygues wins Doha sewage work

29 September 2015

A joint venture between Bouygues Travaux Publics and UrbaCon Trading & Contracting has won two contracts worth € 550 million (US$ 630 million) for the design and construction of sewage tunnels in Doha, Qatar.

The work comprises a 16 km long, 3m diameter north section tunnel, and a 14 km long, 4.5 m diameter south section. The contracts are part of a strategic sewage collection, pumping and treatment services project in the south of Doha, known as the Inner Doha Resewerage Implementation Strategy (IDRIS).

According to Bouygues, population growth in the Qatari capital over recent years has necessitated the redesign and expansion of the city’s sewage system. The system has been designed along sustainable development lines, making use of gravity to ensure the flow of wastewater in the tunnels.

The client for the project is the Qatar Public Works Authority and handover is scheduled for 2019.
