Dutch dredging and maritime infrastructure contractor Royal Boskalis Westminster has been awarded €130 million contract awarded by Russian developer CJSC Baltstroy.

The contract is for the dredging and construction of the Bronka Port shipping channel in St Petersburg, Russia

Boskalis will be responsible for the construction of a 6km long shipping channel, turning basin and berth pockets for the new port facility.

The company said a total of 16 million m3 of clay, silt and sand would be dredged. Work is expected to begin in early 2014 and is scheduled for completion late 2015.

Bronka is a new port facility currently being constructed to increase the container capacity in the St Petersburg region. Boskalis is currently working on the land reclamation for this, as part of a €25 million contract awarded in June 2013.
