Boskalis and Van Oord win Indonesian reclamation

29 January 2015

A 50:50 joint venture between Boskalis and Van Oord has been awarded the € 350 million (US$ 390 million) contract for dredging work on the 160 hectare Pluit City island project off the coast of Jakarta, Indonesia.

The contract from real estate developer PT Muara Wisesa Samudra will see the two companies design and construct the artificial island, which they say will involve the dredging of more than 20 million m3 of sand. They plan to use two jumbo trailing suction hopper dredgers for the dredging and reclamation activities, sourcing sand from local borrow areas. Soil improvement and rock revetment works also form part of the project.

Work is due to start immediately and the project is expected to be completed in 2018. When constructed the new island will be used for both residential and commercial purposes.
