Bilfinger puts concession business up for sale

28 May 2013

Bilfinger has announced plans to divest its concessions business segment. The German contractor said business opportunities between this part of the company and other units, particularly its construction segment, had decreased, which meant concessions were no longer a strategic fit.

The concessions business comprises 16 projects with equity of € 254 million (US$ 330 million), which Bilfinger operates on a public-private partnership (PPP) basis. Last year the company slimmed-down its concession portfolio with the sale of 18 projects to Bilfinger Berger Global Infrastructure Fund, however the company said in its 2012 annual report that it remained committed to building a portfolio of € 400 million (US$ 520 million) in committed equity.

Bilfinger’s concessions business operates infrastructure in Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK and other parts of Europe.
