Bauma China bigger in 2010

27 September 2010

Although the first event was held as recently as 2002, Bauma China is already firmly established in the international calendar of construction equipment exhibitions. It will be held for the fifth time from November 23 to 26 this year at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) in the city's Pudong district, and will set another record for the amount of exhibition space used.

Two new halls have been built since the event was last held in 2008, so the amount of exhibition space will beat that year's record of 210000 m2. The last show saw 1608 exhibitors from 30 countries take stands, and it attracted 113000 visitors.

The organisers announced as early as February this year that the show was sold out, with exhibitor numbers hitting the 1700 mark and occupied space rising to 215000 m2. Visitor numbers are of course another matter, but the 113000 people who visited in 2008 represented a +40% rise on the figure of 80686 in 2006, so Bauma China certainly has a good track record in this department.

On of the reasons' the show has grown so fast is of course the relentless growth of the Chinese construction equipment industry over the last decade. However, Bauma China has also established itself as a genuine international event. In 2008 some 17000 of the visitors came from outside China and altogether 123 countries were represented. The biggest contingents came from India, Russia, Japan, Korea and Brazil, in that order.

The event's international credentials are also reflected in its exhibitors, with 702 of the 1608 participants in 2008 being companies from outside China. Germany, Italy, the US, Korea and Japan were the five largest national groups. This time around there is a co-operation agreement in place between the organisers, Messe München International (MMI), which runs the Bauma exhibition in Munich, Germany and the US-based Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), which had previously run a rival show in China called ConExpo Asia.
