BAM Nuttall secures €100 million Heathrow contract
17 February 2014
Dutch contractor BAM Nuttall has been awarded a €100 million contract by Heathrow Airport to carry out refurbishment work on the main and cargo access tunnels to the airport.
The tunnels are key routes into the airport for public and freight vehicles, and therefore have to remain open during the work.
The civil engineering firm’s contract includes improving the tunnel ventilation systems and upgrading the fire detection, suppression and alarm systems. Work on these will take place overnight and during pre-planned lane closures.
BAM Nuttall will work in partnership with specialist mechanical and electrical contractor VVB to deliver this project. Work starts this month, and is scheduled to take two years to complete.
