Balfour Beatty wins US contracts

Balfour Beatty's US subsidiary Balfour Beatty Construction US, has won a series of contracts totalling US$ 560 million.

In Dallas, Texas it has been selected, as part of a joint venture, to manage construction of a new 1.9 million ft2 (180000 m2) hospital for the Parkland Health & Hospital System to replace the existing 55-year old hospital.

The US$ 1.2 billion project includes a new, 862-bed acute care hospital, separate clinic building, office building, parking structures and other support facilities. Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2011 with completion due in 2014.

The company has also won a contract with The Dallas Museum of Natural History to serve as construction manager for the new US$ 80 million Perot Museum of Nature and Science in Dallas.

The new 150,000 ft2 (13900 m2) museum, which is expected to help revitalise downtown Dallas' economy by attracting about one million visitors a year, is expected to break ground later this yearwith completion due in early 2012.

In Kansas, the company, in a joint venture with Walton Construction, has been selected by the US Army Corps of Engineers to provide pre-construction and construction services for the replacement of the existing, 50-year-old, hospital at Fort Riley with an option for construction services, which is anticipated to be awarded in September 2009.

The project includes a 263000 ft (24400 m2) hospital, a 289000 ft2 (26900 m2) clinic, a central energy plant, an ambulance garage and supporting facilities.

A "fast-track project", construction is scheduled to begin later this year and be complete by early 2012. Pending finalisation of the construction contract in late 2009.

Balfour Beatty's share of the project will be about US$ 230 million.
