Balfour Beatty subsidiary wins Hong Kong rail contract

Hong Kong construction company Gammon Construction, which is 50% owned by Balfour Beatty, has been awarded a HK$ 3.4 billion (US$ 440 million) contract to work on a section of the new Shatin to Central Link railway extension in a joint venture with Kaden Construction.

Railway operator MTR Corporation awarded the contract, which includes the construction of two running tunnels covering 1 km of track connecting the existing East Rail Line to the Hung Hom Station and the Hung Hom Station to the future Ho Man Tin Station. Work is already underway and is scheduled for completion in 2018.

The joint venture contract has a value split of 70% to Gammon Construction and 30% to Kaden Construction.
