September's CE Barometersurvey indicated that activity in the industry was picking up again after the summer break. Asked about the current level of activity compared to a month ago, a balance of +22,8% of respondents said they were busier in September than August. This balance is calculated by subtracting the number of respondents who said activity was worse from the number who said it was better.

This represented a marked improvement on August's figure of +16,8%. It was also the strongest this measure of sentiment has been since June – perhaps indicating that there had been a slowdown over the summer months.

However, respondents in September were a little less positive about the industry's future outlook than they were the previous month. However, the balance figure stood at +45,5% – not as strong as many of the results for earlier in the year, but still very firmly in positive territory. General sentiment has clearly softened since the high point in April, but all the indicators given by the survey remain in positive territory. The fact that sentiment about the future is still stronger than the current position indicates that survey respondents think the current construction boom is still yet to peak.

Take Part

CE would like to thank all those that took part in the August survey. It was completed by more than 300 construction professionals in 28 countries around the region. The survey, which takes just a one minute to complete – is open to all construction professionals working in Europe. Those that take part in the survey will be given access to each month's results on the Internet prior to their publication in CE.

The CE Barometer survey is open from the 1st to the 15th of each month on our website. Full information can be found at www.cebarometer.eu.
