AUS 500 million Gorgon Project construction village contract awarded

18 June 2009

The Thiess, Decmil and Kentz joint venture (TDKJV) has won the AUS 500 million (US$ 397 million) contract to design and construct a construction village on Barrow Island for Chevron Australia.

Construction is expected to start following government approvals and a final investment decision on the Chevron operated Gorgon Project from the Gorgon Joint Venture partners, expected in the second half of 2009.

The village will provide accommodation for up to 3000 workers.

Thiess will provide project management, local procurement and construction services for civil and buildings. Decmil will provide project management, local procurement and construction services.

Kentz will provide engineering and design and supply all offshore procurement. Materials for the project will be shipped to the remote island from Dampier aboard landing craft transport.

The Gorgon Project is a joint venture between the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (Operator), ExxonMobil and Shell, to develop the Greater Gorgon gas fields, located between 130 and 200 km off the north‐west coast of Western Australia.

The Greater Gorgon gas fields contain resources of about 40 trillion ft3 (1.134 m3) of gas, Australia's largest‐known gas resource.
