Using excavators on other planets and a new era of underwater construction have moved a step closer after Japanese construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu unveiled new concepts at CES 2025.

A first-time exhibitor at the consumer electronics and technology show in Las Vegas, USA, Komatsu has offered the first physical display of its in-development lunar construction equipment, as well as a first look at underwater construction of the future.

Komatsu said it wanted to attract a new generation of diverse talent to the company by showcasing innovations it is exploring that go beyond the traditional limits of the industry.

Taisuke Kusaba, chief technology officer and president, development division, of Tokyo-based Komatsu, said, “The core industries we serve, construction and mining, offer plenty of extreme applications that push our engineers, programmers and designers to problem solve ground-breaking use of technology and product design to stay ahead of the needs of our customers.

“As a proving ground for breakthrough technologies and global innovators, CES offers a unique opportunity to highlight some of the leading-edge concepts we have in the works, as well as the Komatsu innovations that are actively helping shape the world around us.”

Komatsu will be exhibiting its innovative solutions for extreme applications at Booth 5316 in West Hall through the run of CES 2025, which concludes on 10 January.

Journalists from Construction Briefing’s sister publication Power Progress are at the show to report on all the latest developments in construction equipment.
