UK-based contractor Carillion is to lead delivery of a commercial building and two luxury residential projects valued at a total of more than £100 million (€127 million) as part of the Kings Cross regeneration site in London.

Construction is due to begin on the three ventures by the end of 2015 and be completed by 2017.

According to Argent – the property group backing the area’s overall regeneration - the 27 ha mixed-use Kings Cross site will involve the creation of a new city quarter. This will feature a total of around 20,000 properties being developed.

It is to be developed with support from UK government-owned property firm London & Continental Railways.

Within the scheme’s plans are offices, properties, schools and a university campus among a total of 50 new and refurbished buildings. The scheme will also see the restoration of 20 historic properties for commercial and residential use.

Kings Cross developers, acting on behalf of owners King’s Cross Central Partnership, plan to create a community featuring a range of shops, bars, restaurants, as well as cultural venues as part of the project. It will be designated with a new city postcode, N1C.

The plans originally gained approval more than a decade ago, with initial infrastructure works being delivered in 2008.

Carillion director Richard Howson believed the company’s involvement with the project would build on its existing relationship with Argent and form part of a development with strong sustainable design principles.
