€356 million contract for Eurovia
21 April 2017
Eurovia – a Vinci group subsidiary specialising in transport infrastructure construction and urban development – has been awarded a €356 million joint venture contract to build an 8km stretch of the D1 motorway in Slovakia.
The consortium, led by Eurovia and including Doprastav and Metrostav Slovakia, will be required to build 2.2km of tunnel, 18 bridges and over 6km of noise barriers along the 8km section of road.
Located near Prešov in eastern Slovakia, it will connect Austria in the west to Ukraine in the east.
As part of the contract, environmental protection measures include sprinkling systems for dust control, road cleaning systems, and the planting of 58,000 bushes and 500 trees.
This project comes as part of Slovakia’s investment plan aimed at completing the construction of the country’s national motorway network. Running up until 2020 and backed by the European Union’s Cohesion Fund, the plan looks to provide faster and safer road connections across Central Europe, foster tourism, and streamline access to large industrial and administrative centres.
Work will begin in the summer of 2017 and it is estimated that the project will employ 500 people at its peak.
The motorway is scheduled for completion in 2021.
