€178 million Slovakia road contract awarded

18 November 2013

A consortium led by contractor Strabag has been awarded a €178 million roadbuilding contract in Slovakia.

The contract is for a 10.4km section of the R2 expressway between Pstruša and Kriváň, running through the Slatina River valley in central Slovakia.

The project includes 13 bridges, noise barriers and access roads. Construction is expected to last two years.

Awarded by the Slovakian National Highway Company, Strabag’s share of the contract is 40%.

CEO Thomas Birtel said, “After years of restraint in public-sector expenditures, the Slovak construction industry is again beginning to recover. We are bidding for several large contracts that are currently in the tendering phase.”
