The PC33E-6 has a short tail design and is fitted with 17.4 kW electric motor, a 35 kwh lithium-ion battery, and powertrain components that come with a 5-year warranty.

Suitable for use inside and outside, the model produces zero emissions and is described as significantly quieter than Komatsu’s compact PC30MR-5 diesel model.

The launch comes two months after Komatsu revealed its medium sized hydrogen concept excavator.

Emanuele Viel, Group Manager Utility said: “The PC33E-6 features large capacity batteries and a highly efficient powerline, enabling most customers to work non-stop for a full shift before having to recharge.

“Thanks to a lightning-fast charging system, downtime is significantly reduced, allowing for increased productivity and efficiency on the job site.”

Key features of the PC33E-6 include an air suspended operator seat, a 3.5-inch LCD monitor that displays machine information and is available with an off-board charger for fast charging.

It also comes with the manufacturer’s introductory E-support customer programme.

“This comprehensive package includes a complimentary 3-year maintenance plan, full machine warranty, and a 5-year parts warranty specifically covering the new high-value electrical powertrain components - all at zero additional charge,” said Komatsu, which is investing heavily in the development of hydrogen powered equipment.

Komatsu said its investment in electric and hydrogen power technologies is part of its plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.
