McDermott executes its heaviest lift
13 May 2024
USA-based energy sector engineering and construction solutions provider McDermott said it “successfully executed its heaviest stacking lift” at Jebel Ali fabrication yard in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for an offshore wind power project in Germany.
The lift was made for the BorWin6 980MW high-voltage, direct current (HVDC) project for Dutch electrical transmission operator TenneT.
Six cranes were used to stack a deck level with a total weight of 1,962 tonnes (2,163 US tons). The tandem lift was led by McDermott’s lifting fabrication team with construction support engineering and the health, safety, and environmental team.
BorWin6 is part of McDermott’s growing energy transition portfolio. It was the company’s first project in the offshore wind market.
McDermott is delivering engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning services, through a consortium with Global Energy Interconnection Research Institute and C-EPRI (Electric Power Engineering), for an HVDC offshore converter platform for a new offshore wind farm off the coast of Germany.
