Osaka-based developer Seksiui notified the municipal government of its decision to cancel the project and demolish the 10-story, 18-unit building in the city of Kunitachi, located in the western part of the Tokyo Prefecture, Kyodo News reported.

Sekisui admitted that it did not adequately consider local values, despite lowering the building’s height and holding meetings with residents.

The developer is has not yet commented on what the situation will cost it in monetary terms, nor has it made announcements relating to when or how the structure will be demolished.

However, given the intense level of grievance felt by many local residents, it is thought that the structure will be brought down within the next six months.
