South American data centre firm expanding footprint in Mexico
01 March 2024
Brazil-based ODATA, an Aligned Data Centers company, which provides data centre services, announced it will expand its existing Mexico operations in Querétaro and build new facilities in Guanajuato and El Marqués
The QR01 data centre will expand in order to “meet the growing demand for IT infrastructure and cloud services in the region,” said the company.
ODATA is also currently building two novel hyperscale data centre campuses in the region (named QR02 and QR03).
The QR01 facility, ODATA said, will handle up to 32MW once fully constructed. At present, it is already the largest data campus in Mexico, according to the company. If has a total area of 52.4 m2 with a phase-1 floor-area of 8.3 m2. Media reported in 2022 that the data centre cost ODATA roughly US$80 million.
“This expansion of QR01 is illustrative of continued customer interest in the market, our teams’ successful execution, and the longer-term value of data centre development in the Querétaro,” said Ricardo Alário, CEO of ODATA.
QR02, in Guanajuato, will have a 30MW capacity, and QR03 – the largest of the trio – will have a capacity of 150MW. QR03 campus is located in El Marqués, approximately 220km from Mexico City. Campus size and cost to finish the two newest centres was not available.
“Mexico is currently one of the main markets in Latin America, where ODATA is well established and rooted to sustain its growth. We already have a recognized brand, regional expertise and great credibility with local suppliers, which enables us to grow safely and at an accelerated pace,” said Alário. “”We believe in the country’s potential as a strategic centre for data centre and cloud services in Latin America.”
