Contractor taps into €465m renovation of major London water treatment plant

Spanish infrastructure group Acciona has won a deal to renovate the Coppermills Water Treatment Plant, which provides a third of the drinking water to the Greater London area.
The firm will design, build and commission the infrastructure before transferring the plant to Thames Water, the private company responsible for supplying most of the UK capital with drinking water.
The existing plant is 60 years old and in need of modernisation. A total of £400 million (€465 million) is being invested to improve its reliability.
Acciona said it will build a new pumping station, launch a new filtration and treatment system, and improve the facility’s electrical supply system.
Engineering consultant Jacobs is working as the lead designer on the project.
Works are set to start on site in 2026 and are scheduled for completion in spring/summer 2032, according to Thames Water.
