The facility will produce 24 GW of Natron’s sodium-ion batteries annually, which the company said would be a 40x scale-up of its current production capacity. Natron delivers its products to industrial power spaces including data centres, mobility, EV fast-charging, microgrids and telecom.

Wendell Brooks, co-CEO of Natron Energy, said, “Once operational, the Edgecombe County facility will accelerate Natron’s growth trajectory, allowing us to capitalise on the growing demand for efficient, safe and reliable sodium-ion battery energy storage.”

It is funded in part by a grant from North Carolina state, which will reimburse Natron up to almost $22 million over a 12-year span.

A start date for construction was not included nor was information regarding potential design or build contracts.
