The project represents a total investment of AUD 526.8 million (US$362.7 million) by the New South Wales government. Bouygues Construction’s share is AUD 406 million (US$279.5 million).

The redevelopment will deliver a new emergency department, an expanded intensive care unit, new theatres, a new ambulatory care centre, a new paediatric short stay unit, more adult overnight inpatient beds and an expanded medical imaging facility.

The redevelopment will include the construction of a 40,000 m² clinical building equipped with the latest medical technology, a significant increase in patient capacity and the creation of underground car parks. The project will be fully integrated with the rest of the campus, including the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre and Denistone House, a 146-year-old historic building.

To support the Ryde district’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035, the project incorporates sustainable features including capacity for over 100 photovoltaic cells, an infrastructure of 18 electric vehicle charging stations, a green roof, and fully integrated waste management facility.

A W Edwards will be working with a network of local subcontractors and suppliers on this project.

The new hospital will support Ryde and the neighbouring suburbs, where the population is estimated to exceed 180,000 by 2041.

AW Edwards commenced on site earlier this year and the new hospital building is scheduled for completion in 2027. Work on the new main entrance, demolition of existing buildings and landscaping will continue into 2028.
