The company said it would construct the brewery under a joint venture with Dubai-based firm distribution company Maritime and Mercantile International called Sirocco.

Sirocco aims to start building the brewery in late 2025, having already secured all the required permits, according to the company.

The brewery, which will brew beer under a variety of brands including Heineken, Birra Moretti, and Amstel, is expected to be completed in 2027.

Local production of alcohol has been prohibited in Dubai until fairly recently and Dubai has gradually relaxed some of the restrictions it imposed on the consumption of alcohol in the late 1970s, as the influx of western tourists has increased.

Dubai welcomed 17.3 million tourists in 2023, of which more than 20% were from western countries, according to United Arab Emirates (UAE) government data.
