UK link road upgrade

A UK government-backed road scheme worth £162 million (€225 million) has been approved for the A5-M1 link road developing a bypass to the north of Dunstable in Bedfordshire.
The 4.5km, two-lane dual carriageway project will involve creating three junctions, and is designed to improve connections east-west between the A5 and the M1 motorway.
Delivered by the Highways Agency, the project is expected to start this month. It is due to be completed in the spring of 2017.
The work is part of the government’s £24 billion (€33 billion) investment in road infrastructure over the next six years. This includes £9 billion (€12.5 billion) to be spent on maintaining 4,500km of road.
There will be a total of 1,550km of new UK roads created by 2021.
