India’s biggest construction company, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has won a deal to build the 30,000-seater Varanasi cricket stadium in Uttar Pradesh.

L&T Construction’s buildings and factories division will build the stadium on a design and build turnkey basis.

The scope of the work includes a main ground as per International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, display score board, flood lights, corporate boxes, VIP loungers, offices, broadcasting and press areas, kitchen and dining areas and a practice ground.

The total site area under development is 30.67 acres (12.4 hectares).

L&T will also be responsible for finishes and allied mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) services.

Work on the stadium is due to start this year and due to be completed by the end of 2024.

The Varanasi stadium will be Uttar Pradesh’s third stadium, alongside Green Park in Kanpur and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana stadium in Lucknow.

Separately, L&T also announced winning an order from the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority to construct Hi-Tech Parks at four locations across Bangladesh: Cox’s Bazaar, Chattogram, Cumilla, and Sylhet. The project is being funded by EXIM Bank.

The work involves building seven-storey buildings at each location, with a floor area of 1.2 million sq ft.

L&T said the combined value of the projects was in the range of ₹ Cr 1,000 - ₹ Cr 2,500 (US$120.5 million – US$301.3 million).
