Kranpunkten ups CapEx with electric scissor order

Following a greater demand from large projects, Kranpunkten is expanding its eco-friendly fleet with an order of 250 electric scissor lifts.

Sweden-based Kranpunkten’s investment plan for 2021 initially comprised more than 200 booms and scissor lifts, truck mounted platforms and telehandlers - most of which are electric or hybrid-powered, with the additional scissor order reflecting the continued increase in demand.

Rikard Jönsson, purchasing manager at Kranpunkten, said, “Demand for lifting equipment for construction and industry, in both small and large projects, has been stable during the pandemic in 2020, and during the spring of 2021 strengthened further.”

The 250 new scissor units will be delivered to a number of large construction projects using its Function Pool service. “The Function Pool concept means that Kranpunkten takes a greater holistic approach to the workplace and handles several functions for the customer.

“We ensure that the right machines are in place at the right time while the customer is relieved from coordination of logistics, service and support functions. In some phases of more extensive projects, the need for a large number of units of the same type may become particularly apparent.

Jönsson added, “In these projects, we now see a growing need for smaller units for interior jobs and therefore we are expanding our fleet of electric scissor lifts further. These machines are quiet and without emissions, which is what is in demand when the projects have reached the indoor phase.”

The increase in demand for machines with a low environmental impact is driving, the conversion of Kranpunkten’s rental fleet to more fully electric machines is speeding up. At present, 83% of its units are electric powered, either as a sole source or through hybrid.

Deliveries of this year’s investments will take place until the third quarter, expanding Kranpunkten’s fleet to more than 4,000 units.
