Joint venture rides off with deal to build San Antonio’s $446m Green Line project

A joint venture between Flatiron and Herzog has won a deal to oversee the construction portion of the $446.3 million Green Line sustainable mobility project in San Antonio, Texas, US.
The joint venture will undertake the work for VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority under a construction manager at risk (CMAR) arrangement.
The 12-mile line, also known as the North-South Corridor Advanced Rapid Transit (ART) project, involves building 26 bus stations, dedicated bus lanes, bus pick-ups every 10-15 minutes along the corridor, and improved connections to key locations, including San Antonio International Airport and the downtown areas.
Construction is set to start in early 2025.
Dale Nelson, Flatiron executive vice president for operations, said, “This transformational collaborative project will connect San Antonio’s vibrant communities while providing an efficient route through the heart of the city.
“The Green Line will speed residents to major employment centres and enhance affordable access to medical facilities and other necessities of daily life.”
Announcing the deal, German construction group Hochtief, which is Flatiron’s parent company, said transit systems like the Green Line “represent a growing percentage of Flatiron’s work portfolio”.
