FCC secures two Peru contracts

FCC has been contracted to work on two major projects in Peru. The Spanish group is to modernise Callao Port, the largest in the country and one of South America's biggest Pacific ports, for € 165 million (US$ 212 million), as well as upgrade the Trujillo sports complex, in northeast Peru, for € 32.2 million (US$ 41.5 million).

Work on the Callao Port includes piers 5 and 11, which measure 560 m and 280 m respectively. Pier 5 is used for containers and bulk ore, while pier 11 provides port services for food imports and has cement silos with a storage capacity of 25,000 tonnes. The work is part of a US$1 billion investment plan by the Peruvian government.

FCC has 23 months to complete the work on this phase of the port, which handles more than 1.9 million containers annually. The client, APM Terminals, a Maersk Group company, is the world's fourth-largest port operator.

Meanwhile, the Trujillo sports complex project (also known as Chicago sports complex) will see FCC build an athletics stadium, an indoor arena, and supplementary infrastructure in preparation for the 2013 Bolivarian Games, an international multi-sport event held every four years.

Central to the development will be a 5,505-seat athletics stadium. It will include a 400 m track with a central enclosed area with natural grass.

The complex will also have a 2,514-seat covered arena and a sports complex offering four courts and telescopic stadium seating for 2,688 people.
