The Moray East windfarm is off the north-east coast of Scotland

A €250 million contract as part of the Moray East windfarm construction project off the north-eastern coast of Scotland has been awarded to French-based Eiffage, via Smulders, the Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal.

It has been awarded as a joint venture with GeoSea, a subsidiary of Belgian-based DEME, and the project covers the design, supply and installation of the 100 jacket foundations, each 85m high and weighing 1,000 tonnes.

Smulders and Eiffage Métal plants in the UK, France, Belgium and Poland will produce 55 foundations. They will all then be assembled in the UK, and transported and installed offshore by GeoSea.

The 950MW capacity wind farm project will cover 295km2 and is expected to supply 950,000 households with electricity.

This contract – the largest ever signed by Smulders – follows similar awards for the Hohe See and Deutsche Bucht wind farms off the coast of Germany, awarded in 2017, and for Beatrice, off the coast of Scotland, awarded in 2016.
