Egypt's Orascom Construction Industries (OCI) has won a 50/50 joint venture water treatment pipeline contract with Hassan Allam Sons worth US$ 393 million.

The pipeline will be constructed for the country's 6th October City Water Treatment Plant and work includes construction of the intake and booster station as well as the pipeline itself.

OCI-Hassan Allam Sons JV will carry out the construction project, which is being financed by the Government of Egypt, on behalf of the Construction Authority for Potable Water and Wastewater (CAPW).

The pipeline will feed the 1.60 million m³/day water treatment plant with raw water using the intake and booster station with 12, 1.5 MW capacity pumps.

The piping spans 118.5 km of steel between El Badrashain and Dahshour. The project also includes construction of underground water tanks and ancillary buildings.

Construction is expected to start before the end of the year and will take about 36 months to complete.
