The company had already been working on the early contractor involvement phase of the project, after the NSW Government appropriating AUS$940 million (US$612 million) for the build.

CPB said its work will include upgrades and the reconfiguration of RPA’s operating theatres, emergency, intensive care, acute inpatient, paediatric inpatient, medical imaging, and women and infant departments.

“The scope of work includes the construction of a new 15-storey acute hospital building adjoining the existing RPA Hospital, vertical and horizontal expansion of the existing hospital structure, major refurbishment to existing spaces across the campus including the ambulance parking area, re-alignment of Lambie Dew Drive Road, diversion of existing inground services, and the design and construction of a temporary helicopter landing site,” stated CIMIC Group.

The refurbished structure will add space for more than 700 beds, with the emergency department expanding from 42 treatment spaces to 91 treatment spaces, while the adult intensive care unit will increase from 49 beds to 74 beds.

The scheme has been called the biggest in the medical facility’s 140-year history.

CIMIC Group Executive Chairman Juan Santamaria said: “We are pleased to be selected to deliver the most significant redevelopment works in RPA Hospital’s 140-year history, supporting it to continue delivery of advanced health services for its local community and patients from across New South Wales, Australia and internationally.”

Construction is underway and set for completion in 2028.
