London-based football club Leyton Orient has named Populous as lead architect for the planning and design of its proposed new stadium and wider multi-sport campus, expected to cost hundreds of millions of pounds.
The east London League One club confirmed last year that it was working with Waltham Forest Council to identify suitable sites within the borough. That process is ongoing, with the project intended to deliver a mixed-use campus centred on a new stadium for the men’s and women’s teams, as well as a London American football side competing in the European Football League.
Plans under development include retail, hospitality and leisure space, alongside supporting infrastructure designed to operate throughout the year. The club says the additional non-matchday revenue will underpin its ambition to establish itself sustainably in the Championship.
Populous, whose portfolio includes Wembley Stadium, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Sphere in Las Vegas, will now begin feasibility work and masterplanning. The firm will support Leyton Orient in consultations with supporters, residents, planning authorities and other stakeholders as the vision is refined.
Supporter and community consultation events are scheduled to take place over the coming months, with initial design concepts set to be presented later this year.
