Demolition company Scholko has become one of the first companies in Germany to add Volvo’s new EC220E crawler excavator with lift cab to its fleet.

The company, a provider of general demolition, C&D waste recycling and specialist contamination and dismantling services, added the new version of the 25-t model to improve safety and efficiency on its sites.

Fitted with a Stage V-compliant 129 kW (175 hp) D6 engine, the EC220E can be used with a range of attachments and its lift cab can be raised up to 4.7 m high.

The higher position of the cab provides the machine operator with an improved view of the working area, improving safety when carrying out demolition works to multi-storey structures, and when loading C&D waste onto haulers for recycling.

While Sebastian Scholko, managing director at Scholko, had been searching for a crawler of this size with a lift for some time, he had been unable to find one. As the company already owned a Volvo EC160E excavator, Sebastian went ahead and bought the EC220E in its standard configuration instead.

Fortunately, three weeks after taking delivery of the standard crawler, his long-time equipment dealer Schults Nachf contacted him with the news that Volvo had just introduced a lift cab version of the same machine, and that they would arrange to exchange the models for him.

Athough Sebastian said his new standard EC220E was “really powerful”, according to Volvo he was excited about swapping it for the new configuration.

“It was not a simple matter of course either,” said Sebastian. “So it shows just how customer-oriented and flexible our Volvo contact partner, the Schultes company, is here in the region.”

Scholko is now using its EC220E with lift cab for a range demolition tasks, as well as the loading of construction and demolition waste as part of its recycling activities.
